Carrie Young - Director
Carrie has taught private and group lessons to string students for the past 31 years. She started playing the violin when she joined orchestra in 4th grade and soon after began private lessons. She continued playing through high school and received a music scholarship to Ricks College where she participated in concert orchestra under the direction of Dr. Kevin Call. Since then, she has participated in orchestras and quartets at Utah State University as well as Pocatello, ID, Soda Springs, ID and Logan, UT.
Carrie graduated from Utah State University with a BA in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Gifted/Talented. She organized and directed the orchestra program at Jefferson Academy in Kaysville, UT for four years. In 2011, along with her associate and good friend, Jennifer Sova, Carrie helped to organize the Utah Charter School Orchestra Festival which ran successfully for 3 consecutive years. Also in 2011, Carrie started the first Summer Strings Adventure Camp in Kaysville, UT which ran for 9 consecutive years. Carrie mentors students from Weber and University of Utah music programs to provide teaching opportunities and experience to new teachers. Carrie has been married to Deray Young for the past 22 years. They have 5 beautiful children. Among her favorite activities are family movie night, spending time with her children, baking, sewing, gardening, creating new ideas, Hawaii (where she has only visited once, but dreams of it so often, it counts as vacation at least once every winter) and doing things for others. |
