Welcome to the Encore Youth Chamber Orchestra page (EYCO)!  You can learn more about us as you read below.  In EYCO, you will have fun with friends, enjoy playing great music together, and have a safe place to be yourself and have fun!

Rehearsals: 
Start Date: Jan 22, 2024
Time:  Mondays 7:00-8:30pm
Location: Kaysville


Costs:

$20 registration plus

$30/month - Tuition due by the first Monday of each month


*Additional costs will be performance attire, an Encore t-shirt or hoodie (optional), tour (minus fund raiser $$)

Eligibility: Students who meet the criteria listed below and are between the ages of 13-18 (age 13 by April 2024)

*2 Utah Symphony Concerts at Abravanel Hall (free):

Dvorak Violin Concerto - Saturday March 30th- Pizza party beforehand

Scheherazade - Saturday May 18th  5:30

*Tour - Tuacahn for Frozen/Anastasia
First week of June 2024 (3 days)

Tour: 
We will schedule the following:
-rehearsal clinic with a guest conductor
-tour of the performance hall at the university
-a performance (or 2) to observe (see above) where they have a live orchestra
-a performance to play (pre-show at Tuacahn)
-Food and FUN!!

Encore Youth Chamber Orchestra applicants need to:

1. Be able to play:

    A- Scales - play one in quarter notes and one in eighth notes (75-80 bpm)
        violins - 2 octave B flat, 2 octave D Major scale and 2 octave G Major
        violas and cellos - 2 octave D Major scale, 2 octave F Major scale and 1 octave G Major (2 octaves if you can)
        bass - 1 octave G Major scale,  D Major scale, and 1 octave F Major scale

    B-  A piece of music with a group - we will do a slow number and a more upbeat piece

    C-  A piece you love that shows close to your ability level (please choose 16-32 measures of a piece you love that you can play well)-  Can be played in front of the group or just the director.
   

    2. Be dedicated
    We love students who love to play, so we want you to come each week prepared for rehearsal.  We love to laugh and have fun and we take our performance level seriously. We can't wait to get to know you!

    3.  Letter of recommendation

    Send a letter of recommendation from your orchestra or private teacher or bring it to the first rehearsal.  If sending it in, please send it to:
    ​ [email protected].  In subject line enter "Teacher recommendation for _____ (student name)".  It does not need to be more than a sentence or two explaining what the student has played, what level they playing and how the teacher feels about the student being able to play the music for this group.  The teacher is free to contact Carrie at (801) 309-8519 with any questions.
